All You Need To know About Camber Kits

Camber kits customize the tilt of your vehicle's wheels. Most cars come with suspension that has adjustable camber, but the adjustments may only work for standard ride heights. Any modification, such as lowering your car with springs or coilovers, alters the suspension geometry. Sometimes, factory camber adjustments are maxed out, yet the proper camber still isn't achieved.

What Does A Camber Kit Do?

A camber kit is a collection of adjustable components - such as adjustable control arms, cam bolts, or camber plates - designed to allow for precise adjustment of a wheel's vertical tilt. Most factory suspension systems offer very limited adjustment. When you modify your ride height, the geometry shifts, often pushing the wheels into positions that the stock hardware cannot correct. Camber kits can serve as a correction tool to adjust alignment after lowering your vehicle, ensuring optimal tire tread contact with the road. A camber kit may also help you fit wider wheels within the fenders.

Can A Camber Kit Improve Handling?

Yes. By adjusting the camber angle, you can maximize the tire’s contact patch with the road during hard cornering. While a neutral setting is great for the highway, a slight tilt can transform how your car feels in the twisties. You'll see more predictable steering feedback and really feel that rubber-to-road contact during turns.

Is Camber Bad For Daily Driving?

Extreme camber is detrimental to daily driving, but functional camber is not. Excessive angles can cause inner tire wear, where the inside edge of your tire builds up heat and thins rapidly, eventually leading to a blowout. Functional camber is the sweet spot where you'll get improved cornering and aesthetics. A camber kit keeps camber within a safe, functional range for the street - you don't want a setup that eats tires every 3,000 miles.

What’s Positive And Negative Camber?

Negative camber is when the tops of the tires tilt inward. It’s ideal for cornering.

Positive camber is the term for when the tops of the tires tilt outward. It is rarely used today except for specific off-road needs.

How Can You Adjust Camber?

To adjust camber, you'll have to modify or replace the specific suspension components that dictate the wheel's vertical angle. Since most factory setups offer little to no adjustment, aftermarket kits utilize sliding plates, eccentric bolts, or threaded arms to provide the necessary clearance and alignment adjustment. At EuroSport Tuning we offer specific replacement components or complete kits that will allow you to adjust your camber to your needs:

  • Camber Bolts: Replace factory strut bolts with eccentric lobed bolts to tilt the steering knuckle.
  • Adjustable Control Arms: Swap fixed-length arms for threaded versions that can be lengthened or shortened.
  • Camber Plates: Replace top strut mounts with slotted plates that allow the entire strut to slide inward or outward.
  • Adjustable Bushings and Ball Joints: Use offset centers or sliding joints to shift the pivot point of the suspension arm.

How Much Does A Camber Kit Cost?

Camber kits vary in complexity based on your vehicle’s suspension design and how extreme you want to go. Follow the links below to see the current pricing on some of our more popular camber modification products.

Can I Install A Camber Kit Myself?

If you are comfortable working with suspension components and have a jack and jack stands, you can install the hardware yourself. Some camber kits are relatively simple to install, while kits with complete replacement suspension components may require more mechanical knowledge to do at home. However, the job isn't finished until the car hits an alignment rack - even though you install the hardware at home, always get your car professionally aligned afterward.
