There are many items in your vehicle's suspension system that contribute to the quality of the ride as well as the handling characteristics. Among these components are the bushings, tie rod ends, and the ball joints.
If you have started to notice a clunking sound when driving over bumps, accelerating or stopping, or sloppy handling and a rough ride, then failing ball joints and bushings could be to blame.
Since the main material that makes up a bushing is rubber, over the years it will wear out, due not only to the constant stress of the vehicle's movements, but also because of its constant exposure to the elements. Ball joints will wear out after years of use, or from damaged boots allowing outside contaminants inside the joint and causing it to rust.
