Although BMW suggests the ZF transmission utilizes a lifetime fluid, we all know that lifetime is referencing the warranty not the transmission itself.
As time goes on and the fluid in your transmission breaks down it becomes less capable of transferring heat and lubricating internal components

permanent damage of internal components and potential failure.
