Few things can be more frightening than having a brake hose blow out during braking. You will lose braking power almost instantly, dramatically increasing stopping distance, and leave you with a soft, spongy brake pedal that travels all the way to the floor.
Brake hoses need to be inspected regularly for cracking, chafing, dry-rot or leaking, and if any of these symptoms are present, the brake hose must be replaced. A good time to inspect and replace brake hoses is during regular brake service.
If you are replacing one or more brake hoses, the braking system must be bled before the brakes will function properly, so be sure that you have enough brake fluid on hand to do the job.
