The crankcase ventilation system on your Mercedes-Benz engine is an important part of the vehicle emissions system, and must be kept in proper working order for the car to run efficiently.
There are many hoses in the crankcase breather system, and because they are constantly exposed to heat and oily gasses, over the years the rubber that they are made out of starts to degrade and fall apart. Once this happens, the crankcase breather system will no longer function properly, and you will begin to have emission system leaks on your engine, causing it to run poorly, with reduced fuel economy and excessive emissions.
The only remedy to this is to replace any failed crankcase breather hoses with new ones to keep the crankcase breather system functioning properly.
