Fog lights are the lights mounted on the front of a car or truck which help visibility in foggy or misty conditions. Many modern fog lights are halogen lights, which allows them to burn at much hotter temperatures than traditional lights.
Fog lights are very different from all other lights in the way they shed their light on the road. A fog light has a special lens which diffuses the light and instead of sending a direct beam forward it scatters light broadly to both the front and slightly off-set to either side of the vehicle. They are intended for use at low speed to increase the illumination directed towards the road surface and verges in conditions of poor visibility due to rain, fog, dust or snow.
