The camshaft drives this high-pressure fuel pump through the cam follower. It builds up pressure to supply the correct fuel for the direct injection system. Any leaks or failures of these components can affect your vehicle's performance such as a check engine light, lack of throttle response, or a rough idle. Replace your faulty high-pressure pump and keep your engine running strong. If the cam follower becomes worn to the point of breaking it can cause permanent damage to the receiving end of the fuel pump, without replacement it is common for followers to have full holes worn through them. The worn-down follower will leave your fuel pump damaged, this is the common failure point of this setup. Replacing this follower as a form of preventative maintenance can save you from spending even more money and time replacing your fuel pump or camshaft from damages done by a warn-through follower.
