The Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor provides pressure information to the engine control unit to calculate air density for determining the engines air mass flow rate. A faulty MAP sensor can upset the fuel mixture and ignition timing, causing a surge, rough idle, and a rich fuel condition which can lead to spark plug fouling and a loss of power and fuel economy.
