When an idler roller fails, it is usually the bearings that go bad. Though it does little more than track the belt, if it's not spinning properly the belt can wear and break prematurely. The idler roller should be replaced with timing belt service to ensure you get the full life out of your timing belt.
* This part is designed for the FSI engine only. This can easily be found on the engine cover of your 2.0T VW/Audi. It will clearly be stamped FSI (not TFSI).
