After years of abuse, rubber axle and differential seals are known to split, crack, or deteriorate to the point of leaking. While a differential leak may seem insignificant, it can prove quite costly if ignored for long enough. As fluid leaks out of the differential, the fill level decreases, effectively inhibiting the differential carrier from staying lubricated and/or cooling properly. In short, if left alone, a leak will destroy your differential.
