One major drawback of the N55 engine is the oil pump and pan design. While great for street driven vehicles, this design falls short when tracking your BMW. Due to the design of the N55 oil pan and pump, higher G-loads experienced when cornering can lead to oil starvation and pressure drop, potentially leading to bearing damage and more.
By upgrading to the S55 oil pan and pump design that BMW utilizes in both their standard M4 and Motorsport M4 GT4 models, you can prevent the possibility of oil starvation! The dual pump design used on the S55 engine installs onto the N55 engine easily and without the need for any major modification to the stock block or windage tray. Thanks to the addition of a scavenging pump, oil pressure and delivery are maintained under all aggressive driving conditions, even when the oil supply is not consistent from the main oil pump.
